Web Home Page: The Nooitgedacht Dam, covering 750 ha and lying in the centre of the 3 420 ha reserve, is fed by the Vaalwater, Boesmanspruit and Witkloof rivers, and contains bass, crap, yellowfish and barbel. The vegetation surrounding it consists of species typical of the Highveld grassland, with extensive beds of thatch-grass which provide roosting and nesting sites for a wide variety of bird species. Large flocks of spurwing and Egyptia geese are seasonal visitors, and blue cranes also occur. The reserve contains plains zebra, springbok, blesbok, red hartebeest, grey rhebok, common duiker and steenbok. Location: Central part of Mpumalanga; north of Carolina. Access: From Carolina take the R36 towards Machadodorp and after 1 km turn onto the tarred road; this is signposted to the Nooitgedacht Dam. Accommodation: Camping allowed, but only basic facilities are provided, no drinking water. There is a hotel and a camping site in Carolina. Other facilities: Fishing; watersports; game-viewing and bird-watching take place mainly from motorboats and the camping site. Guests are not permitted to wander freely in the reserve but group walks can be organised Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: 06h00 to 18h00.
